Children with Disabilities

In reading the article that was posted by my Professor in Comm 305, I have mixed thoughts and opinions on reading the article. It is very sad that children with disabilities get put into a stereotype group without being asked to. Children with disabilities don’t want to be looked at with pity, sadness, or feeling sorry for them. It makes what he or she is going through that much more difficult. The Disability Act for Children that was passed into law made it more accessible for children with handicaps to go to school and learn the way “normal children”do.

It saddens me to read that in certain magazines like Sesame Street Magazine only have showcased 63 articles on a child with a disability from 1961–1990. I believe that more articles need to be published on children with disabilities. I also believe more books should be written about a child with disability. Not just white children, but African-American children, Hispanic children, races and ethnic backgrounds of all kind.
